Custom Niche Fronts, Aluminum Columbaria, Tan Brown Granite
~14’ wide x 10’ tall
East Lawn Memorial Park has been a family-owned cemetery for generations. When one of its familial stakeholders passed away the cemetery searched for a special way to commemorate this individual’s lifelong commitment to the cemetery. Being an accomplished painter in his spare time, the cemetery felt his artwork was a perfect way to commemorate his memory. We took a small 12”x12” watercolor canvas of the individuals childhood home on the Sacramento River and blew it up to a shipping container sized columbarium. During installation, the color infused into the cemetery was enough to stop every visitor in their tracks to ask questions and provide positive feedback. Turning an unused wall into a true piece of art is one example for how cemeteries in California are getting creative with their ever-shrinking space. This columbarium is the first of its kind in the world.
